CONCERNING HOLY COMMUNION: According to Christ’s Word in Holy Scripture, and in confession of the true Christian faith, we observe the ancient evangelical practice of closed communion. We believe that those who commune together must confess the same holy faith, just as the Scriptures teach. Since one’s church affiliation indicates one’s confession of faith, only those aught to commune who are communicant members of, or whose church is in confessional fellowship with, the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. If you have any questions, or have never communed at St. James before, please contact Pastor. If you would like to receive a blessing, please cross your arms over your chest.
THOSE WE ARE KEEPING IN OUR PRAYERS: (Please contact Pastor or Linda Hall by Friday of each week to add petitions or update current information.)
For all the sick, suffering, enduring, and recovering: including Lisa Croby, Ginni Davis, Frank Dent, Carlita Gossell, Gary Gossell, Linda Hankee, Mike Howard, Janet Keefe, Cindi Kent, Anita Mattos, Terry Mattos, Riley Maxson, James Reinhardt, Sheila Ryan, Marlene Schroeder, Judy Stoller, Dorothy Welther, Theresa Willner.
GERMAN DINNER: Most of us know the work that goes into making this St. James’ tradition a success…all the work preparing and setting up and then cleaning up afterward. We will be setting & preparing foods on Saturday, October 10th, at 8:00 a.m. and October 13th in the basement. If you haven’t already done so, please plan on helping when/how you can assist with the dinner preparation, service, etc. Again, with your help, and by working together, this year’s German Dinner & Bazaar will be a blessed success as in past years. THANK YOU! From the Bazaar & German Dinner Committee: Linda Ruemler, Candice Marlatt, & Renee Cleefman. Any questions please call (219) 207-0076 (Linda Ruemler).
BAZAAR SHOP: Please bring any items for the Bazaar Shop on Tuesday, October 13th, morning. You may also bring them in on Sunday if it is more convenient. Please put your Name, Price, and if it is food item - a description.

REFORMATION FESTIVAL SOUP COOKOFF & DESSERT BAKE: Watch the bulletin for more information. This will be held on October 25th. Purchase one of the new cookbooks and find a soup and/or dessert recipe to make.
SUNDAY SCHOOL HELP NEEDED: We are needing someone to step up and help with our Sunday School since both of our teachers are expecting little ones. Questions and/or volunteers can contact Pastor or Maggie.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD SHOEBOXES: It is time to start thinking about packing the Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes. We have supported this project for several years and would like to continue on. Alexie Garner and Jillian Lepley have volunteered to head this project up this year and we are so thankful for them. With the benefits from Thrivent, any eligible Thrivent member may apply for a Thrivent Action Team grant. Once approved, Thrivent will provide $250 seed money, T-shirts for the volunteers, and thank you cards for those helping with this project. We will need to begin collecting small toys, hygiene products, school supplies, non-liquid hygiene items, socks, sunglasses, etc. There are copies of “What Goes in my Shoebox?” in the narthex if you would like to donate items for this project. It also tells you what NOT to include. Please help with this very worthwhile project.
